Dennis was a man of many passions, but his love for the great outdoors was unrivaled. He was a true lover of nature, and soaking up the beauty of the world around him. His love of the outdoors was reflected in some his favorite hobbies, including fishing and hunting. In addition to his love of nature, Dennis was a sports enthusiast, his favorite teams being both the Virginia Tech Hokies and Dallas Cowboys. But his interests didn't stop there. Dennis had a natural gift for working with his hands, and he enjoyed tinkering with cars and fixing what he could. Dennis was also known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He had a talent for making anyone and everyone laugh, and his jokes and humorous anecdotes were always the highlight of any gathering. He had a special way of connecting with people and showing his affection through his humor. But perhaps the one thing that truly defined Dennis was his unwavering kindness. In all of his pursuits, whether it was fishing, hunting, sports, cars, or making people laugh, Dennis lived life to the fullest and with a passion that inspired those around him.
Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Wesley Miles Shafer; his sister Denise Marie Shafer; his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Henry Shafer and Walter Wells.
