

Rev. Dewey Lee Leonard, 86, of Evington passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Irma Gale Leonard. Born January 20, 1931, in Bassett, he was the son of the late Elvin Glay Leonard and the late Luvania Neal Leonard.
Dewey was a retired owner and operator of D.L. Leonard Seamless Aluminum Gutter Company for over 50 years. He also served as a minister for 50 years. Dewey was a member of Altavista Church of God of Prophecy, and he served our country in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents, Dewey was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Fitzgerald Leonard; two sons, John Lee Leonard and James Walter Leonard; and one daughter, Carolyn L. Jones.
In addition to his wife, Dewey is survived by his children, Bonnie L. Wade and her husband Dennis of Roanoke, Phoebe Anne Leonard and her husband John Lambert of Evington, Barbara Leonard of Lynchburg and Linda L. Worley of Lynchburg; step children, Darlene Jamerson and her husband Mike of Lynchburg, Angela Thomas and her husband Barry of Lynchburg, Larry M. Smith, Jr. and his wife Ronda of Monroe and Serena Diehl and her husband Randy of Rustburg; one sister, Rachel L. Bishop of Farmville; twenty-eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Oak Grove Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery in Winfall with Pastor Wayne Murphy officiating.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
