Doris Ann Lipscomb Schmidt Booker of Summerville, SC passed away on August 2, 2021. Doris was born on September 10, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Samuel L. Lipscomb and Lelia Viar Lipscomb. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Holmes Booker (Bob) of Lynchburg, by her first husband, Walter Richard Schmidt of Louisa, VA, by her daughter, Teresa Marie Carroll of Summerville, SC and by her grandson, Richard Michael Schmidt of Marion, VA. Doris was also preceded in death by six brothers (Samuel, Richard, Lewis, Robert, Paul, Johnnie) and two sisters, Hilda Callahan and Frances Cheatham. Doris is survived by her two children, Diane Potter and her husband Robert of Summerville, SC and Michael Schmidt Sr of Summerville, SC. She is survived by grandchildren Rachel Sosna of Syracuse, NY, Robert S Potter Jr and his wife Christina of Spotsylvania, VA, Regina Potter of Hopemills NC, Michael Schmidt Jr and his wife Christina of Spotsylvania, VA, Jeff Mahaffey of San Diego, CA, Chris Church of Marion, VA, Matthew Carroll and his wife Amanda of Ladson, SC, Laura Potter of Charleston, SC and Tracy Schmidt of Bealton, VA. She is also survived by her loving sisters Loretta Buraker of Madison Heights, VA, Charlotte Harvey and her husband James, of Riner, VA and Betty Lipscomb of Lynchburg, VA. Doris is survived by great-grandchildren Robert Scott Potter III (Robbie) Potter, Riley Potter, Theron Schmidt, Grey-C Schmidt, Madison Schmidt, Amethyst Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, Rachel Schmidt, Aaron Church, Hunter Marshall Church, Paris Good, Milan Good, Xiomara Sosna, Yamara Sosna, Edgardo Sosna and Abigail Carroll. Doris is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Doris was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Lynchburg prior to relocating to South Carolina, where she was a member of St. Theresa Little Flower Catholic Church in Summerville. Doris earned an Associates in Applied Science majoring in Management. Doris was a military wife of 19 years. As a military spouse, she moved around the nation and world with her husband. She made a house a home and she assured her children their father would be home soon and was safe. Doris worked for the Department of Defense in Northern VA and the Lynchburg Public Library, where she worked as head clerk and retired. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 7, at 11:00am at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road.
