Edith Irene Singleton Welling, 96, of Lynchburg, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, went to be with her Lord Thursday, October 13, 2022. She was the wife of the late Rev. Howard Wilson Welling.
Edith was known for her joyous spirit, compassion, humility in all things except for pride of her family, love of nature, and devotion to God.
Born in Albion, Indiana, July 8, 1926 Edith was the daughter of the late John Virgil Singleton and Edith Coke Singleton. She retired from Hills Department store and assisted her husband in ministry. Edith was a longtime member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Clifford N. Welling.
She is survived by two sons, David H. Welling and his wife Ngan of Lynchburg and Philip W. Welling and his wife Diane of Forest; three daughters, Charity W. Tidwell and her husband Rudy of Lynchburg, Faith I. Welling and her husband Marc Teitelbaum of Arizona and Hope W. Thompson and her husband Turner of Ashland; one sister, Mary Rose Stouffer; seven grandchildren, Daniel Higginbotham (Jessica), Matthew Higginbotham, Mark Hudson, Jeffrey Teitelbaum (Allison), Matthew Teitelbaum, Amanda Thompson, Jessica Tidwell, Kayla Tidwell, Britney Tidwell and Kevin Young and 7 great grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2022 at
Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
