Estelle Ferris Layne

Estelle Ferris Layne, 87, of Lynchburg passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Simon Peter Layne, Jr. Born in Spout Spring, September 8, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Elmer H. Ferris and Myrtle Mayberry Crews. Estelle retired from Leggett’s Department Store and was a longtime member of Thomas Road Baptist Church where she served in the choir for over 35 years. She is survived by three daughters, Myra Susan Goswick of Richmond, Dianne L. Burns of Bedford and Rebecca L. Towler and her husband Steve of Lynchburg; two sisters, Katheryn Grishaw of Spout Spring and Doris Perry and husband Ronald of Evington; one brother, Eugene Ferris and his wife Jean of Lynchburg; two half-sisters, Edith Mayberry and husband Joe of Lynchburg and Marion Beard and husband Richard of Richmond; one half brother, Joseph Ferris and wife Cathy of Spout Spring; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 at Concord Cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating.
