

Born October 14, 1928 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Ezekiel Cleveland and Mary Estelle Tanner Smith and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Berkley, Clayton, and Bennie Smith and two sisters, Susie Thomas and Zelma Clements.
Frances was retired from the Lynchburg Public Library. She was a member of Whites United Methodist Church.
Frances is survived by her son, Wayne E. Crowell, Jr. and wife Maria Cristina of Forest; two sisters, Rosine S. Wilson, also of Forest and Delores S. Robertson of Amherst; a brother, Milton Smith of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Hayley Crowell of California and Casey Crowell of Florida and two step-grandchildren, Luisa Maria Osorio and John Jairo Osorio, both of Columbia.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Jack Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday August 4, 2017 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
