George Robert Neilans, 71, of Lynchburg, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Lynchburg General Hospital, surrounded by family. Born in 1950 to the late Charles and Alberta Neilans, George grew up in Albion, New York. He married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Sue Neilans, in 1972 and graduated from Alfred University the following year with a B.S. in ceramic engineering. For many years, George worked in brick manufacturing, running plants in Pennsylvania, Alabama, and finally, Virginia. George’s favorite pastimes included woodworking and home improvement, and he frequently donated his time and skills to help family, friends, and those in need. He also enjoyed travelling, volunteering with his church, and telling tall tales. Above all else though, George loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Becky; three children, Sarah Ambryn Koegel and her husband, Christopher, Daniel Aaron Neilans and his wife, Shelly, and Luke Archer Neilans and his wife, Angela; seven grandchildren, Connor Koegel, John Koegel, Victoria Neilans, Constance Neilans, Matthew Easley, Adelaide Neilans, and Lillian Neilans; and five siblings, Fae Woodworth and her husband, Alan, Roy Neilans and his wife, Joanne, Charles Neilans, Scott Neilans and his wife, Kerri, and Bruce Neilans and his wife, Lisa, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his grandson, Emmett Neilans. He will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service and celebration of George’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on June 5, 2021 at Timberlake United Methodist Church.
