Harlan Cornelius Bowman, Sr., 88, of Lynchburg, died, Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband to his late first wife, Virginia Barnard Bowman and to his present wife Patricia Ann Bowman. Born September 19, 1923, in Randleman, NC, he was the son of the late Florence Allen Bowman and the late Alma Russell Bowman.
Mr. Bowman was a retired, self-employed painter/contractor and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
In addition to his first wife and parents, Mr. Bowman is preceded in death by six brothers and sisters including, J.B. Bowman.
Mr. Bowman is also survived by his son, Rev. H.C. Bowman, Jr. and his wife, Diane of Motley, his daughter, Judy B. Guthrie and her husband Andrew of Lynchburg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted, 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Mount Herman United Methodist Church Cemetery, Altavista, VA, with the Rev. H.C. Bowman, Jr. officiating.
