Born July 4, 1930 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Harry Franklin Wood, Sr. and Elsie Hepinstall Wood and was also preceded in death by a son, Barry R. Wood and two sisters, Shirley W. Tucker and Gloria Maxey.
Junior was retired from Montague Betts. He was the foreman in charge of providing the steel fabrication from Montague Betts for the World Trade Center. He was very proud to be a member of the United States Marine Corps., where he served a tour in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart.
He is survived by five sons, Terry Wood and wife Rita of Forest, Landon Wood of Pilot Mountain, NC, Derek Wood of Lynchburg, Brian Wood of Forest, Craig Wood of Evington; one daughter, Trina Carter and husband Danny of Goode; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie Wood and wife Betty of Rustburg and W.T. Wood of Madison Heights.
He enjoyed gardening and bird watching. He has now joined loved ones of the past and will be greatly missed by his loved ones of the present.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Dr. Dennis Hollandsworth officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 -8:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
