

He was born on October 7, 1929, in Lynchburg, a son of the late Herbert Gladden Lankford and Ruth Pugh Lankford. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, William “Bill” Lankford, Robert “Bob” Lankford, Murrell Gladden Lankford, and one sister, Myrtle Dudley.
In his younger days he served his country in the Seventh Army HQ Btry 979th F.A. He was retired from B&W and was a member and devoted camera operator for many years of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Lankford is survived by two sons: Kevin Lankford, and his wife Peggy, of Rustburg, and Mark Lankford and his wife Sisuda “Sissy” of Lynchburg, four sisters: Lillian Lawson of MD, Rosa Logwood, Barbara Crawley and her husband Reed, and Marie Wade and her husband Curtis of Lynchburg; one step-grandson, Robbie Watson, and two granddaughters: Jessica and Libby Lankford, they were the light of his life.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at11:00 a.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell, Rev. David Heerspink, and Rev. Charlie Harbin officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 16, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
