Born on April 29, 1934, in Lynchburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late William H. McFaden and Mary Ellen McFaden. Ted is also preceded in death by one great grandchild, Tate.
Ted proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years, achieving the rank of Boatswain’s Mate Second Class. He began his service aboard the USS Wisconsin, served during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged from the USS Newport News.
Following his military service, Ted worked for more than 30 years as a lineman with C & P Telephone Company before his retirement.
Ted enjoyed many things throughout his life—fishing, the beach, especially the Outer Banks, and regular trips to Rodanthe, North Carolina. He was a devoted NASCAR fan, always pulling for Dale Earnhardt, and had a lifelong love for trucks and John Deere tractors. He also had a fondness for classic country music, especially Hank Williams and Hank Williams Jr. Time at the Moose Lodge 1727 was always special, where he was affectionately known by his family as a proud “Mooser.” A longtime resident of Timber Lake, where he met Lynn, Ted also had a deep love for their dogs, Molly, Hank, and Huck.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lynn B. McFaden; three children, Caryn Watson (Brian), Mark McFaden, and Scott McFaden; two stepchildren, Jenny Moore (Carnell) and Donnie Butler, Jr.; four grandchildren, Kent, Calli, McKinley, and DJ; four great-grandchildren, Avery, Oakleigh, Scarlett, and Charlee; one sister, Shirley Beahm; and two nephews, Mike and David.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. The American Legion Post 16 will be presenting full military honors at the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society in Campbell County, BARCC, at PO Box 46, Rustburg, VA 24588, or online at www.barccmeow.com.
