

Howard Donald Almond (Donnie) peacefully went to be with the Lord on Thursday night, February 10, 2022. Donnie was born in Lynchburg to Robert Howard and Elizabeth Almond on September 17, 1950 and grew up most of his life in Rustburg. He was a 1967 graduate of Rustburg High School and played football and baseball during his high school years. In 1969 Donnie joined the Army and served our country in the military until 1972. While in the Army, he served a tour of duty in Seoul, S Korea and we honor him for being willing to lay down his life for our country.
Through the years Donnie enjoyed sports, fishing, motorcycle riding and swimming. He had a great love for his family and would do anything for them that he could. Donnie worked a couple of different jobs but eventually chose trucking as a long term career and did that up until his stroke in 2015, which forced him to retire.
Donnie was preceded in death by his dad, Robert Howard Almond and his mother Elizabeth Burleigh Almond. He was also preceded in death by a very special brother in law, Kenneth A Bryant.
He is survived by two sisters and a brother. Sandra Bryant, of Rustburg, Diane A Johnson and ( husband Bill Johnson) of Stuart’s Draft and Michael Almond of Lynchburg. He is also survived by two sons, Ryan Dolph (wife Kimberly) and Shawn Dolph, two daughters, Kimmy Dolph and Haley Campbell (husband Devan).
Donnie leaves behind five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by some special nieces and nephews he loved dearly and were an important part of his life. They are Jeff Bryant (wife Julie), Jordan and Jenna Bryant, Chris Bryant (wife Deana) and Caleb Bryant. Angela Mason (husband David), Leah Rockey (husband Nate), Jeremy Johnson, and Lydia J Wills.
Donnie’s funeral will be held on Saturday, February 19 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. The family will begin receiving visitors at 11:00 AM and the service will be at 12:00 Noon , conducted by Pastor Bill Johnson of Stuart’s Draft. Donnie will be buried in Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg, but there will be no graveside service.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Carriage Hill Retirement Community in Bedford, Virginia for ministering and caring for Donnie these past 6 years.
