died Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at
Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the
husband of Joanne McMillan Mars for
55 years.
Born in Goshen, N.Y., he was the son of
the late Clinton E. Mars and the late
Mildred Hane Mars. In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by
two sisters, Doris M. Root and Florence
(Flossie) Mars and one granddaughter,
Rachel Mars.
Howard was the retired sales manager
for Unitron Corp. and a member of the
Moneta Ecumenical Church. He served
his country in the U.S. Army during the
Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by
one daughter, Nancy Mars of Richmond;
one son, Steven Mars of Saugus, MA;
one brother, John Mars of Schenectady,
N.Y. and two grandchildren, Allison and
Patrick Mars.
A memorial Service will be conducted at
2 p.m., Monday, January 30, 2012, at
The Summit with the Reverend Ken Berger
officiating. Entombment will follow at a later
date in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service.
