She was born July 21, 1937 to the late Johnnie and Clarice Lewis of Halifax County, Virginia. She was the devoted wife to the late Fred Thomas Hauser Jr for 43 years before his passing in 2007. She is survived by her son Fred T. Hauser III and wife Amy and daughter Susan (Sue) Hauser Beverley and husband Mark. She is also survived by her three granddaughters: Logan Ruff and husband Dakota, Madison Sitton and Caleigh Hauser. She is also survived by her great-grandsons Banks Ruff and Crews Ruff; nephew Rodney Lowery; brother-in-law Tommy Lowery and several cousins. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her son Edward (Ed) S. Hauser, her sister Lois Lowery and nephew Scott Lowery.
Janice graduated from Halifax County High School and Virginia Baptist School of Nursing. She had a long-standing career in Nursing with decades of tenure as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Always dedicated, dependable and reliable, she never missed a shift, often picking up additional shifts. Any threat of bad weather she always arrived a day early or stayed a day later. Nursing was her true passion as she marveled over the true miracle of childbirth. The only thing to get her to retire was to have her own grandchildren. That time finally came in 1997 when Logan was born and Madison and Caleigh followed. Janice treasured her title as "Nan" and set a high bar in her role as a grandmother. Her granddaughters came before anything. She was very proud of each one of them and they made her happy.
In addition to Janice's nursing career she also was known as a phenomenal cook and loved to knit. She was always up for a trip to Emerald Isle. She loved the color red and was a huge lover of all animals and her many dogs. Above all she enjoyed being with her family and her many, many friends. Janice was truly the representation of a true GIVER in life verses a taker, never expecting anything in return.
The family is appreciative to each staff member at The Summit Assisted Living over the past several years up until the end of her life.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, April 27, 2026 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
Because of her love of animals and children, the family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to a charity of choice that will benefit children or animals.
