I miss you. I will always miss you. The greatest love produces the greatest grief. It never goes away. One just learns how to adapt to the void that is left. Just grateful for the time that we had together my brother. Sending love to heaven.

RIP Uncle Jim you would have loved kpop demon hunters how its dundundun

I still think of you my precious brother ever day. I miss the place that you held in our family. It has left a big hole in my heart. I hope it will lesson with time but I am still waiting for that. Sending love and prayers to you as you lie in the arms of the angels.  Love, Jackie your sister.

I remember when I was feeding uncle jim chicken fingers (chick fil a I think)  and he had a big smile on his face :)

Jim Lonergan stands out in my memory as providing a singularly human connection in customer service at J Crew. I was sad to see that he passed before his time. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Jim was my go to person when I was having anxiery attackes. His calm demeanor and soothing words helped me overcome the panic.  

I started working at J.Crew in 2010. I can't remember the very first time I met Jim, but I quickly came to know him as a very interesting, knowledgeable person. 

He and I worked together from 2013-2020. He was so kind, pleasant and engaged with everyone on the team that he was nicknamed "The Mayor" for a while. He knew so much, and cared so much about J.Crew, that there was a joke that he was the "secret CEO" or undercover boss. 

I remember when our team was asked to start taking phone calls (probably 2015 or so), Jim was adamantly against it and confided that he was nervous and rusty. Well, I remember sitting at my desk, overhearing his first call. It was amazing, he was great. He brought an incredible amount of charisma and empathy to bear -- it seemed like he was talking to an old friend. And he did that every time! I learned a lot hearing those calls.

I always loved talking to Jim. Besides being insightful about work, he always had something interesting to say. A question bothering him, a deep thought, a revelation, something he'd learned. He could talk to you about technology, politics, religion and spirituality, Star Trek, movies, and so much more. Just a wealth of knowledge. We kept in touch only here and there after he retired, though I often thought of things I'd like to tell him, or tried to imagine his take on things (he pretty much always surprised me, so my guesses were probably way off!)

He really challenged me in a lot of ways, and I'm grateful for that. I like to think some of his insight and ability to see the best in people rubbed off on me. I know I'm a better person for having known him -- and I think most who knew him would say that. 

Thank you, Jim, for being a good friend and a good person. You are truly, sorely missed. 


I worked with Jim for many years and came to value his wisdom and friendship deeply. His gentle (yet frequent) reminders that I am “a human being, not a human doing” stay with me still. We kept in touch a few times a year via email, and I hadn’t reached out lately. I was devastated to learn of Jim’s passing.

Jim and I were the best of friends growing up.  We were in Boy Scouts together, and in high school we were in a number of rock n roll bands together.  Seems like we were always looking for a drummer.  When my parents went to Chicago one year and I was going to to have to quit the senior class play to go with them, Jim’s parents let me stay at their house instead.  We couldn’t wait for the newest Hammer Horror Film to come out.  Jim was there when I hosted a New Year’s Eve show on WWOD radio one year when we were in college.  He knew how to operate a motion picture camera and got behind my 16mm news camera once when I was doing sports for WLVA TV but had no photographer to shoot an interview I was doing with some pro football player.  And of course we were in plays at the Fine Arts Center including the musical Little Mary Sunshine just before I moved to California. That is, we were in rehearsals for Little Mary Sunshine together.  I ended up moving before the play opened.  I only got back to Lynchburg once after I moved west, sometime in the 90’s but it was like I’d only left the week before.  I remember that trip particularly well because Jim showed me where they had moved Peter’s News Stand.

I know jim will be sadly missed by all. I will always remember our breakroom conversations and the positive perspective he had on life. May he live on in our thoughts and memories

My condolences to the family and close friends of Jim.  I enjoyed working with him at J.Crew.  He always brought a new perspective to issues.  He was a candid, out-of-the-box thinker which I appreciated.  He will be missed. 

Jim was an interesting guy and great to talk with.  He was deeply inquisitive and curious.  I worked with him at J.Crew from 2003-2012 and had hoped to run into him again at some point.  That chance has sadly passed.  

I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing.  He had such a calming demeanor in all the chaos at J Crew during the busy seasons. He will be missed. 

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Friends from grade school through years of service at JCrew. RIP Jim.

Jim was such a great employee for many years. He was always so kind and intentional in every interaction he had. He was also always thinking of new ideas and ways we could improve. I’ve missed hearing from him since he left is. 

Jim has already been, and will continue to be greatly missed.
