Joyce Roakes Waller

Joyce Roakes Waller, a resident of Mennowood Retirement Community in Newport News, VA went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2022, at the age of 90. She is remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Joyce was born in Gladys, VA in 1931 to the late Hubert and Grace Roakes. While raising a family and working on the family farm, she also worked at Nationwide Insurance where she retired after 29 years of service as a Commercial Services Training Coordinator.

Joyce was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lynchburg for many years and especially loved her Sunday School Class, The Willing Workers.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Cawley T. Waller, sister Vynette Arnold, and half-brother Julian Waller.

She is survived by her sister Shirley Cawile of Gladys, VA, her children and their spouses Marie and Samuel Harper of Newport News, VA and David and Tricia Waller of Java, VA; grandchildren Rachel Ipock (Jason), Carrie Clarke (Jan), and great grandsons, Dylan Ipock, JEB Clarke, and Thomas Clarke.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am – 10:45am on Monday, November 28, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel in Lynchburg. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 11:00 am at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Kedron Baptist Church Cemetery.
