

Kay, as she was lovingly called by her friends, was born December 2, 1923 in Valley Head, WV to Adam Merrill Leary and Vanzie I. Fisher Leary. Kay graduated from Tygart Valley High School and married Thurman A. Daniels, Jr.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, J. Merrill Leary and Howard B. Leary and a grandson, Kirk Andrew Berry.
Kay was active at First Church of Christ, Elkins, WV and Manor Woods Church of Christ, Rockville, MD and she was involved in PTA in the schools with her children for 30 consecutive years. Kay was a devoted mother who loved to cook and was an accomplished seamstress. She made every holiday very special for her family and loved ones. Kay was an example of generosity and frugality all of her life; never indulging in herself, but always generous with others. Kay moved to Rockville, MD in 1974. She worked at the National Institutes of Health for 23 years until she retired at age 75. Linda and Rick Edwards moved Kay to Lynchburg in 2013.
Surviving Kay are her four children; Linda Kay Edwards (Rick) of Forest, VA, Shirley Jean Daniels (Jim) of Gaithersburg, MD, Terri Suzanne Daniels of Annapolis, MD and Stephen Allen Daniels of Bel Air, MD; her sister, Lenora D'Pugh (Chauncey) of Annapolis, MD; nephews, Ronnie Corder, Richard Leary (Katrina) and Robert Leary (Mariela); great nephew Christopher Corder; great great nephew, George Corder and nieces, Bonnie Leary High (Danny) and Pamela Leary Reed (John). Kay loved her grandchildren Michael Scott Berry, Tynlee Dyann Bailey and her namesake, Kathleen "Katie" Elizabeth Shinn Daniels; great grandchildren, Jesika Berry, Christian Berry, Kaitlin Gordon, Hunter Bailey and Jake Bailey; great grandson James Daniels Benda and great granddaughter, Camille Berry.
We thank the staff at Heritage Green Assisted Living Daybreak and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their kindness and care. We also thank Jim Freeman, Pastor, Union Christian Church and the Billy Hunt Singers for their visits to Heritage Green.
Friends will be received from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home 45 Randolph Ave., Elkins, WV 26241. On Monday morning, February 29th, Kathleen will be moved to the First Church of Christ in Elkins for the funeral at 10:00 AM. Rev. Don Hepler and Rev. Jason Brandon will officiate. Interment will follow at the Mingo Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ, 300 Worth Ave., Elkins, WV 26241.
