Born August 30, 1939 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Lawrence F. Banton, Sr. and Lillian Blankenship Banton. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Allen Banton and a sister, Nancy King. Mr. Banton was retired from B&W and was a former firefighter with the Lynchburg Fire Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Banton is survived by his daughter, Donna Martin of Chesterfield; a sister, Sheryl Glass of Lynchburg; two granddaughters, Katie Martin of Chesterfield and Christy Coleman of Virginia Beach and a grandson, Cody Martin, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, South Portland, ME. There was also his faithful canine companion of many years, Sophie, which you usually did not see him without.
