He was born on February 9, 1936 in Lynchburg, son of the late Edward and Mary Almond.
Lowell was retired from B&W and after retirement he drove the school bus for Lynchburg City Schools. He was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church and also attended Gracepointe Baptist church. He enjoyed a good football game or NASCAR race. His greatest passion was the love of his family especially spending time with them at Sunday dinner.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Doris; five brothers and sisters; Dove Bibb, Clarence Almond, Mae Foster, Peggy Lewis, and Hoskins Almond, which he shared a special bond with each.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Robin A. Thurston and husband Mark, Linda Cash and husband Robert, and Debbie Ayers. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lindsey, Josh, Berkely, Gary, Alex, Lauren and Kacen will miss his stories about his time in the service, his memories of playing football for the Brookville Bees and his willingness to always listen and show love.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Greg Tyree officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 12:50 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
