

Margaret Mayhew Garbee, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at her home, with her children by her side. She was preceded in death on February 23, 2012, by her husband of 65 years, Ernest Cleveland Garbee Sr.
Born March 22, 1928 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Henry Etta and Lela Pickeral Mayhew. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Garnett Mayhew; and two sisters, Leatrice Pillow and Louise Mayhew.
Mrs. Garbee was a retired secretary for the late Dr. Edwin Harper with twenty-five years of service. She was a member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the choir, initiated the Meals on Wheels project, and served on numerous other committees.
Mrs. Garbee is survived by her children, Ann G. Kostal (Steve Crandall), and Phyllis G. Smith (Daniel) both of Lynchburg; two sons, Ernest C. Garbee Jr. (Martha) of Goode, and Michael Garbee (Donna) of Lynchburg; nine grandchildren, Matthew Smith (Susan), Kylie Gilleland (Ryan), Quinn Hall (Kendall), Sarah Watts (Michael), Victoria Stump (Jeff Wright), Taylor Garbee (Sam Bieri), Parker Garbee, Justin Garbee, and Emily Garbee; five great-grandchildren, Raegan Smith, Kaleb Wright, Beckett and Merrick Gilleland, and S.J. Bieri, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012, at Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Larry Craddock and the Rev. John Siegle. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the residence of Mrs. Garbee.
