Margaret Griffin “G-Ma” Yelvington, 94, of Lynchburg went to be with her Lord Wednesday, March 6, 2019. She was the wife of the late Jesse Pierson Yelvington. She and Jesse were married for 51 years.
Born in Miami, Florida, November 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Charles Walter Griffin and Hazel Drymon Griffin. She is survived by two daughters, Toy Hine and her husband Mark of Forest and J.J. Cole and her husband Paul of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Rachel Harrison and her husband Graham, Jessica Smith and her husband Kevin, Emily Elrod and her husband Brandon, Kenzie Cole, Pierson Cole and Meredith Cole and seven great grandchildren, Emma, Jaleigh, Abby, JR, Kellan, Drew and Eli.
As a loving wife, mother and grandmother she had a serving spirit and passed that on to her family. After 30 years of traveling across the country as a Marine family she and her husband retired to Miami. Upon Jesse’s passing she moved to Lynchburg to be with her family. She became a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church where she was often seen in the kitchen serving Wednesday night dinners, at LCA where she enjoyed time with the children and volunteering in the kitchen at Camp Hydaway. She was the heart of the family and her home was often filled with the grandchildren and their friends. She had a love for baking and blessed many with her Amish Friendship bread.
A service celebrating her life will be conducted at 11 am, Monday, March 11, 2019 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
Her desire was to remain in her home and her granddaughter Kenzie made that reality possible. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge Sherri Staton, Lorianne Gilmour and Patti Wise for the wonderful care they provided for the past several years.
