Merle West Staton

Merle West Staton, 81, of Concord passed away Monday, July 30, 2018, at her residence. She was the wife of Terry Jones Staton, Sr. Born March 9, 1937, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Ray West and the late Alease Austin West.

Merle was a retired paralegal for Sherwood Day and a member of Living Word Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Merle was preceded in death by one son, Donald Scott Staton.

In addition to her husband, Merle is survived by three children, Donna Russell Wright (Al) of Concord, Terry “TJ” Staton, Jr. (Lisa) of Lynchburg and Julie Ayers Lacks (Scott) of Big Island; four siblings, Richard West of Goosecreek, SC, Johnnie West (Evelyn) of Kernersville, NC, Carolyn Wooldridge of Lynchburg and Howard West (Ellen) of Pfafftown, NC; ten grandchildren, Amanda Russell Augustine, Mickey Ray Russell, Christopher Jay Russell, Heather Staton Harris, Terry Edward Staton, Kaitlyn “Katt” Staton, Sarah M. Staton, John Eugene Ayers, Jr., Jason Scott Ayers and James Thomas Ayers; five great grandchildren, Cameron Russell Phillips, Kayley Donna Phillips, Weston Cruz Russell and Jett Cleveland Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel followed by a graveside service 11:30a.m., at Spring Hill Cemetery with Dr. Alan Mason officiating.
