Show Love, and You Will Be Loved
In a dreary fog I awaken
But as it clears I’m again shaken
I picture your smile and glasses black rimmed
And I’m reminded that my world has dimmed
The memories come flooding back.
A dragon named Dude, a crocheted hat.
A home run on errors, over the catcher you leaped!
Everyone cheered, oh what a feat!
Your love of God came from Dr. Putt, Nathan and Vance,
You listened and learned and many times took a stance.
Your faith grew strong from the lessons they did teach
It was seen in all the youth sermons that you preached.
There’s much more to your story that should be said,
Of those who led you, and those that you led.
But it was your friend’s broken hearts that brought me to this.
The effect you had on them is impossible to miss.
They all talk of your kindness and smiles
The happiness you spread across those many miles
“Fly high brother” your friends did say
“Until we meet again someday”
“Rest in peace, great soul, good friend,
So sorry that your time too soon did end”
And though this end is not what Diane and I wished
I believe it was God’s plan that led to this
God saw your smiles, He knew what to do
I believe it was this path that He chose for you
He saw you witness near and far
He saw you witness at a bar
Who, they asked, is this smiling man?
“Hey y’all! It’s Mike I am!”
When in jail you prayed to Him
Others saw and asked to join in
You prayed for help, you prayed to heal
You gave them hope knowing God was real
And while others may say you strayed
The Lord God knows that you stayed
true to him. You did your best.
“Come to me” He said.
“It’s time to rest.”

I remember Michael, or “Beans” as we called him in marching band, when he and his brother first came to LCA, as it was my first time too. He and I never really started to talk until later in the first marching year, even then I saw a loving and warm spirit within him. As time went by, I would find myself quoting funny movie lines with him during band practice or even just talking about life on marching band trips. His presence was very inviting, humbling, and caring. So sad to see a loving friend leave this world, my condolences and prayers go out to the family.
To Kevin: I love and miss you man! The Lord is always with you man, never forget that. Continue to look to Him for strength and comfort and He will provide it. I’ll be praying for you!
