Michael Arthur Giorgilli passed away at the age of 73 on August 6, 2023, at his home in Lynchburg, VA. Michael fought a courageous battle with cancer these last few years, but was determined not to allow the cancer to remove his appreciation and joy of life, and he managed to find a smile in each day.
Michael was born in Baltimore, Maryland, later residing in several different states before landing in Lynchburg, VA. He enlisted in the Coast Guard after high school, serving a tour in Vietnam. Following college, he began a life-long career in the insurance industry, specializing in reinsurance and life underwriting. Michael loved learning, was an avid reader, enjoyed English Literature, history, ballet, classical music, and had many other interests. He was an excellent storyteller and loved to write. He could be as serious as he could be silly, and was a true gentlemen. Michael was most proud of his family, his wife Maria and daughters Rhea and Allison, and he adored them. He was also especially proud of his time in the Coast Guard, a true "Coastie" at heart.
Michael is survived by his wife Maria (Carella) Giorgilli and daughters Rhea and Allison Giorgilli. He is also survived by his brother Frank Giorgilli, and sisters Linda Rice and Marla Giorgilli. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Thedra Giorgilli.
