Born in New Rochelle, NY, August 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Windsor and Bessie Sturdivant Windsor. Natalie graduated from New Rochelle High School in New Rochelle, NY and attended Oakwood College, now Oakwood University for one year. She fell in love and married Robert Douglas Stewart. Six children were born to this union. Natalie was known for her singing since the age of 7 when she began singing on radio stations. She traveled with choral groups, church choirs, special duets, and solo for various churches and programs throughout New York and surrounding areas in Virginia. She was also known for her writing. She wrote numerous poems and plays. She continued singing, writing, and reciting poems throughout her life. She had the opportunity to sing for the Board of the Adult Care Center in Lynchburg and for her attending peers. We were recently informed that Natalie continued to spread God’s love through song at the Summit Health and Rehab. in Lynchburg until she became ill. She had also planned to write a book about her life. She was a member of Smyrna Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert “Bobby” Stewart, Jr.; two daughters, Beverly Stewart and Gail Smithson; two sons-in-law, Lester Smithson and Stafford Henry; and one granddaughter, Brianni Bell.
She is survived by three children, Theodora Stewart Henry and Dawn Stewart Read (David), and Donna Stewart Bell (Harold); two sisters, Elaine Windsor Woods and Shirley Windsor Sanders; five grandchildren, Alicia Smithson Edwards (Miguel), Travis Henry, Alex Bell, Nicholas Bell, Amiah Read, and two great grandchildren, Maliyah Edwards and Mateo Edwards.
A service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Danny Milton officiating. Masks are required by all that attend and social distancing is appreciated.
Interment will be at the Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery in Amelia at 2:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends prior to the service.
