

Born on July 4, 1929 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Robert Henry and Bessie Ida Thaxton.
Mr. Thaxton served our country in the US Navy as a Gunner Mate on the USS Coral Sea. He was employed with Beryle Phelps Paint Contractors as a commercial and private painter for many years. In 1964 Otis accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. He was an alternate pastor of Gospel Baptist Church and Pastor of Hope Baptist Church. He completed his life story memoirs and led many souls to Christ. He enjoyed preaching the word of God mostly, hunting, fishing, watching his favorite TV shows, writing letters to the newspaper editor, trips with his family, cutting coupons and recipes, playing poker and pool, and going out to eat. He was a good and faithful servant of the Lord till the end.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Thaxton, Harold Thaxton, and Henry Edgar Thaxton; four sisters, Irma Thaxton, Annie Thaxton Dinkins, Nan Thaxton Wingfield, and Evelyn Thaxton Hartless; and close friends, Rudy Brown, Bob Archer and Leroy Heckerman.
He is survived by his children, Teresa T. Masseth and husband Jim of Lynchburg, Dennis W. Thaxton and wife Sarah of Burke, Michael K. Thaxton and wife Kathy Baer of Evington, and Susan K. Thaxton and Charlie Thompson of Lynchburg; his brother, Ed “Billy” Thaxton of Madison Heights; Five grandchildren, Jenny, Tammy, Joe, Chris, and April; six great grandchildren, Faith, Elijah, Rachael, Makayla, Evan, and Luke; one great great grandchild, Willow La’el Chrytser; and best friends, Charlie Moore, Clara Jean Bell, and Dorothy Bowyer.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 6 to 7:30 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 1 pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Curtis Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
