He was also predeceased by his maternal grandparents Rita Irene Beazley and William Herman Beale. His paternal grandparents Susie Elizabeth Deaner Dalton and William (Wilie) Mack Dalton.
Phillip grew up in Rustburg, Va. and attended Rustburg High School. He was an employee of Consumers – Dornin Adams Co. in Lynchburg for about 25 yrs. and before that he worked quite a few years for C.R. Hudgins Plating Co.
Left to mourn his loss and celebrate his life are many family members, friends, and neighbors.
He is survived by three (3) older brothers, one (1) sister and their families.
Michael T. Cash and Shelley, Robert (Butch) Dalton and Fran, Howard (Pee Wee) Dalton and Teresa, Sharon L. Hwang.
Since Phillip never had children of his own, he was very fond of his nieces and nephews! He and David had a very special relationship because they spent quite a few years together as David was growing up. Lots of fishing memories there.
Six (6) nephews; The late Christopher Cash, David Dalton, Michael Dalton, Toby Kershner, Tyler Hwang, and Weston Proffitt.
Four (4) nieces; Michelle D. Harris, Melissa D. Akers (John), Kimberly D. Wolfcale (Justin), and Crystal D Lowry.
Great-nephews; Caleb Dalton, Brandon Harris, Jarrett Lowry, and Jackson Akers.
Great-nieces; Brittany Harris, Rachel Sprayberry, Emma Sprayberry, Camryn Dalton, and Sharla Lowry.
Phillip spent 31 yrs. with his “better half” Teresa H. Brooks and her son Derek Brooks. He was a great stepdad in Derek’s life growing up, and he was very proud of him as a young man. Teresa’s extended family was just like family to him. Niece Jennifer Smith and her children Aaliya and Isaiah. He thought they were the closest he was going to have to grandchildren. All her family on both sides treated him just like family!
He had 4-legged fur babies that he loved. Leo his big boy, Jazzmin his “bugle” that he loved dearly and little Lucky the cat.
His lifelong friend and hunting buddy Tim Robertson and his wife Melissa and their sons J.T. (Brent), Trevor, and Lukas. J.T.’s children Lily and Trace.
The Robertson gang was like a 2nd family, having shared with them many holidays, special occasions, and lots of good times over the last 40 yrs. Not to mention quite a few wild and wacky deer tales from hunting seasons past.
Phillip lived a good life, worked hard for everything he ever had and always tried to be available to help his family, neighbors and friends. He loved the company he worked for and thought his boss Dudley Marks and Donald Hall were great guys. He said he was always treated with respect and the company really looked out for their employees. Recently, after his shoulder injuries and surgery Dudley treated him well and it was much appreciated. He always said they may have been a small crew, but they worked hard and got the job done!
Phillip loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and most all critters. He found much joy in feeding the deer that came through his yard, all the little birds and even the neighborhood cats…of course he may not have had much choice about the cats. He never wanted to see any animal mistreated or hungry.
Before covid and the pandemic he looked forward to spending time during the summer in the Shenandoah Valley at his brother Michael's cabin on the river. He loved spending time there with him, hanging out on the deck, fishing, eating, and visiting the local sites. He always said no one could cook a steak like his brother!
The last summer we visited we spent time with Mike and Shelley in D.C. and Phillip finally got to visit Arlington Cemetery and his Uncle Charlie's grave. It was one of his fondest memories in life, he felt very honored to be there.
Last but certainly not least, Phillip loved White’s United Methodist Church and his church family! He was baptized and joined the church on March 27, 2016, Pastor Jack Davis performed the service. He attended WUMC as a young boy and made his way back later in life.
He had his hand in everything from the board meeting to the basement, all things maintenance, the fellowship hall, yearly yard sale and even led the charge for the logging project to make money for the church! I guess you could say he was everyone’s “go-to” guy.
That little church has been in operation for over 200 years, and he was determined it would be there another 200.
