Richard “Dick” Lafayette Lawrence, 87, of Greensboro, N.C. and formerly of Bedford, VA, died Saturday, August 20, 2011, at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro. He was the husband of the late Bertha Tomlin Lawrence.
Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas Richard Lawrence and the late Helen Snyder Lawrence. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Richard was a member of the Brook Hill Wesleyan Church and a retired sales rep. for Weldex Sales Corp. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by one daughter, Diane Lawrence Lynham and her husband, John, of Greensboro, NC; one son, Richard L. Lawrence, III and his wife, Alice, of Salem; two step daughters, Jane A. Bailey and her husband, William and Bronwyn C. Bishop, all of Roanoke; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
