Bob was born June 26, 1936 in Fairview, Montana to Pete and Delfina Espinosa.
Bob served in the Civil Air Patrol when he was a teenager and then at age 18 he enlisted with the United States Navy where he served from September 1954-September 1959. While stationed in Oahu, Hawaii at Pearl Harbor, in a room full of sailors, the Superior Officer asked for a volunteer and Bob raised his hand. By raising his hand: he changed the course of his life. It was then that he trained to be a meat cutter. Little did he know he would retire from the meat cutting profession more than 65 years later.
Shortly after his Naval service he met and married the love of his life, Faye Zaharias, and they enjoyed more than 55 years together. Before Faye preceded him in death on April 27, 2019 they owned their own meat market, The Meat Block, in Depew, New York. When they later moved to Colorado, Bob became the Union Steward for UFCW Local 7 where he served and helped others for over 20 years.
Bob was well known for his superb cooking skills and it was common practice for him to prepare and deliver meals to family and neighbors. He could creatively fix just about anything that was broken. He loved being outdoors and expertly landscaped and designed the property of each home he lived in.
Throughout his life, Bob contributed much of his time and effort to helping others, not seeking acknowledgment or praise. The impact of his life extends to many people through his generosity and acts of kindness. He was a strong pillar who people asked for advice and took comfort in. He loved God and his family and was proud to be an American. “They just don’t make men like him anymore…”
Bob was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer in October 2023 and fought nearly a year long battle with the support of loving family and friends.
Bob is survived by his children George Kenneth Espinosa, and Lisa Fotine Espinosa; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Eddie, Cynthia, Richard and Pete.
He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Faye, son Franklin Espinosa, and siblings Fred, Consuelo, Lucille, and Jim.
A memorial service to honor his legacy will be held on Saturday, August 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Methodist Church located at 14340 Wyatt’s Way Huddleston, VA 24104 with a repass in the fellowship hall immediately following.
The family of Bob Espinosa extends sincere and most heartfelt appreciation to the medical staff and doctors who treated and administered care: Dr Mahmood Rasheed, Dr Michael O’Neill, Dr Neeraj Gupta, Dr Brian Mandeville, and Dr Christopher Stands.
