Robert "Bobby" Thompson

Robert “Bobby” Thompson, age 87 of Rustburg, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at his home. He was born in Lynchburg on June 5, 1933, son of the late Hubbard P. Thompson and Donnie M. Thompson. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, his twin, Willie “Bill” Thompson, Hoyt Thompson, and Crote Thompson as well as 3 sisters, Emma Lou Tweedy, Nancy “Budgie” Nash, and Katie “Sally” Holt. Robert was a member of New Chapel Baptist Church and had served his country proudly in the United States Navy. He was retired from Virginia Department of Transportation and loved working on the farm all his life as well as being a master at cabinet building and had put his work in several homes in the area. He loved his family and enjoyed the summer cookouts that he had with them which gave him even more time to spend with his grandkids who meant the world to him. He not only enjoyed being with his family but also loved all his friends as well. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lois Jean Thompson; a son, Robert Daniel Thompson and wife Linda; 2 grandchildren, Ryan Thompson and Faith Thompson; a nephew, Pete Thompson and 6 nieces, Teresa Akers and husband Roger, Lisa Tribble and husband Edward, Jeannie Hemphill, Brenda Canada, Barbara “Pokey” Coates, and Joy Pettit and husband Larry. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Sharon Bradley all the help she provided to Bobby in his final days. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at New Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Dooley officiating.
