Robert Ellis Wilmouth Sr.

He was born in Lynchburg on November 21, 1930, son of the late Ellis Herman Wilmouth and the late Pauline Wilmouth Strickland. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 59 years, Marguerite P. Wilmouth as well as his step father, Charles R. Strickland.

He was retired after 20 years from the United States Navy and from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles after 24 years. Robert was a member of Indian Hill United Methodist Church and graduated from EC Glass High School and Phillips Business College. He was a 33rd degree Mason and was a 50 year member of Edward N. Eubank Lodge #262 as well as the Lynchburg Scottish Rite.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of nine years, June “Jana” Wilmouth; four children, Robert E. Wilmouth, Jr. (Vicki), Susan W. Jones (Barry), Steven C. Wilmouth (Annie) and Kevin W. Wilmouth (Alethea); a brother, David Wilmouth (Marianne); step children, Bobby Harris, Mike Harris, and Becky Tilson. His is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 am – 12:45 pm on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Indian Hill United Methodist.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Indian Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Stevens officiating. Scottish Rites will be offered during the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors being offered by the Appomattox American Legion Post #104.
