Roy G Harris Sr.

Born on January 4, 1936 in Charlotte County, he was the son of the late Walter Lee Harris, Sr. and Virginia Ramsey Harris.

Roy served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired as an electrician from Montique-Betts Company with 27 years of service. Roy was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He enjoyed being with his family and doing outdoor activities, and was dedicated to his work.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers, George Harris, Walter L. Harris, Jr., Dalton Harris, Claude Harris, and Thedford Harris.

In addition to his wife Joyce, he is survived by his children, Roy G. Harris, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Lynchburg, Cindy Cole and husband Michael of Chester, and Patricia Ferguson and husband Jeff of Rustburg; six grandchildren, Waylon Ferguson and wife Nici, Amanda Ferguson, Bryan Harris and wife Sarah, Brandon Cole and wife Meghan, Shannon Cole, and Ann Marie Dobrovolc and husband Eric; four great grandchildren, Gavin Ferguson, Hunter Ferguson, Michael Dobrovolc, and Evelynn Harris; brother, James Harris and wife Elsie of Madison Heights and Russell Harris and wife Lois of Halifax; sisters, Mary Williams of Phenix and Myrtle “Peachie” Coates and husband Claude of Forest; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Harris of Lynchburg and Ann Harris of Blaskstone; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of his son Roy and Deborah Harris, 167 E. Overbrook Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24502. A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Pastor Ernest Carey Jr. officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.
