Shirley Jean Hughes Stanley

Shirley Jean Hughes Stanley, 75, of Rustburg passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Runk and Pratt at Liberty Ridge. She was the wife of the late Sherman Dixon Stanley, Sr. Born November 8, 1939, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Berry Ben Hughes and the late Ethel Richardson Hughes.

Jean was a dental assistant for Dr. Richard Fisher and a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church.

Jean is survived by two sons, Sherman “Stan” D. Stanley, Jr. and his wife Carla of Rustburg and Gary H. Stanley and his wife Dawn, also of Rustburg; six siblings, Eddie Hughes and his wife Frances of Brookneal, Ben Hughes and his wife Linda of South Boston, Jimmy Hughes and his wife Sue of Turbeville, Elizabeth H. Whitt of Richmond, Kate H. Fisher and her husband Richard of Brookneal and Mabel H. Ragsdale of Volens; four grandchildren, Nathan Gillispie, Adam Stanley, Paige Stanley and Carson Stanley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Hyland Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Roller officiating. Interment will follow at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery in Rustburg.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2015, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
