
Thelma Ewers Gowin, of Lynchburg, died, Sunday, September 18, 2011, at the Privette Home. She was the wife of the late Christopher C. Gowin. Born in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Washington Ewers and the late Mary Lucy Mays Ewers.
Mrs. Gowin was a retired assembler for General Electric Corp., where she worked for 14 years, and she was a charter member of Park View United Methodist Church. She was also an accomplished seamstress often sewing for her family and friends. Mrs. Gowin was also a member of Woodmen of the World.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gowin is preceded in death by two brothers, Lathan Ewers and Edgar Ewers and one sister, Edith E. McFaden.
Mrs. Gowin is survived by two sons, Christopher Ray Gowin and his wife Jane of Ft. Mill, SC and Terry Kent Gowin and his wife, Gail of Virginia Beach; and three grandchildren, Christopher Hills Gowin of Hoboken, NJ, Allen Hamilton Gowin of Charlotte, NC and Mary Lofton DuBose and her husband Blake of Irmo, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m.., Friday, September 23, 2011, at Park View United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phil Showers officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.
