Velna Henderson McCarthy

Mrs. McCarthy was the daughter of the late Edward Hurley and Lena Belle Henderson of Lynchburg, VA, and she was married to the late John Allen McCarthy. She was the sister of the later Doris Paxton.

Mrs. McCarthy was a graduate of E. C. Glass High School and worked for a short time at Strother Drug Company before becoming a full time devoted wife and mother. She loved her family, friends, and church.

She is survived by three sons: Allen McCarthy and his wife Ruth Anne of Lynchburg, Bill McCarthy and his wife Laurie of Irmo, South Carolina, and Frank McCarthy of Lynchburg and daughter: Linda Bosiger of Lynchburg. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful staff of the Centra Hospice of Lynchburg and to Dr. Jack MacNeil.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 pm on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Reverends Virgil and Sue Knipp and the Reverend Maurice McCarthy officiating. A private family graveside inurnment will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centra Hospice of Lynchburg and Memorial Christian Church, Lynchburg, Virginia.
