

Verla Austin Lloyd, 89, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, due to natural causes. Born in Lynchburg, April 6, 1934, she was a daughter of the late George Wallace Austin and Gladys Faulconer Austin.
Verla derived much joy from maintaining a lovely home and preparing delicious meals for her family and friends. She was an exceptional homemaker while also enjoying a long career at Lynchburg/Columbia Gas Company. Her work ethic and willingness to continually learn and take on new challenges are traits to be admired. Verla was an active member of the Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene and previously attended Leawood Baptist Church. She will be missed greatly by her loved ones.
In addition to her parents, Verla was preceded in death by two loving spouses, Walter Layne, husband of 35 years and Jake Lloyd, husband of 20 years, brothers Dixie and Johnny Austin and sisters Margie Martin, Shirley Wooldridge, Ruby Burnette and Carolyn Franklin.
Verla is survived by two children, David Layne of Madison Heights and Pam Morris (Larry) of Utah, her late husband, Jake’s children, Kathy McGann (Brian) of Manassas and Lisa Turille (Randy) of Lynchburg, grandchildren Ashley Morris, Whitney Morris, Natashia Keesling, Erika Kay (Jesse), Brendan McGann, Elleri Turille and loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Green and Amedisys Hospice for their care and support of Verla and family.
Verla’s family will receive friends at Whitten Funeral Home Timberlake Chapel on Thursday, January 18, from 7pm-9pm. She will be laid to rest at Fort Hill Memorial Park at 11:00am, Friday, January 19, 2024.
