Vernard Edward Powell Jr.

Born in Lynchburg, July 27, 1927, he was a son of the late Vernard Edward Powell, Sr. and Thelma Dawson Powell. He retired from Meade Corp. / Rock-Tenn, was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge # 715 and a member of Fairview Christian Church.

Vernard is survived by sons, Dennis Elliott Powell and Sharon Roach of Lynchburg, and Terrell Edward Powell also of Lynchburg; daughters, Sharon Powell Marilla and husband, Sterling of Chatham, Joan Powell Bateman of Lynchburg; special friend, Eric Branham; brother, Ray Powell of Lynchburg; sisters, Frances Wray of Culpeper, Willie Lucado of Newport News; six grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Friday, September 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today (Thursday), September 13, 2012 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and other times at the home of Mr. Powell.
