William Clyde Lester

William Clyde Lester, 92, of Forest passed away peacefully on Friday April 12, 2024. He was born in Lynchburg and was the son of the late William Tobias Lester and Mildred Johnson Lester. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Frances Cheatwood Lester; one son Gregory D. Lester and his wife Sharon of Forest; two grandchildren, Deron Lester and his girlfriend Summer Moon, both of Forest, and Nathan Lester of Forest and his girlfriend Tori Dieppa of Lynchburg and a great-granddaughter, Alice Lester. Clyde was a retired journeyman printer for the Lynchburg News & Daily Advance. He also worked for the Washington Post and held several other miscellaneous jobs in his later years. He drove a school bus for the Lynchburg City School System, was a salesman for James River Beverage Company and worked part time for Value City. Clyde was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Moose Lodge 715 on Lakeside Dr. Clyde proudly served his country in the 116th Infantry of the National Guard. He was a people person who loved his family dearly and made many friends throughout his lifetime; many of which he kept in touch with until recently. Clyde was an animal lover and very fond of his pets over the years, mostly cats and a special dog named Straightstone. He leaves behind one beloved cat named Laverne. He enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and family, fishing (especially Nag's Head), gardening and was a loving and devoted caregiver to his wife in his later years. The family would like to thank the Heartland Hospice team for all of their help and support during the past month. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Todd Vie officiating with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
