to be with the Lord on Friday, August 9, 2013, at
the VA WNY Healthcare, Batavia.
Fred was born on March 19, 1932, and was the
son of Fred E. Large and Margaret Uldene Large.
Fred was raised in Pittsburgh and was an avid
Steelers fan.
He served in the U.S. Army and also went to
college at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania
where he earned his teacher certificate. That is
where he met his wife, Patricia, and they married
on September 12, 1954. He started his first teaching
job in Union City, PA from 1956-1963. In 1963 he
was hired by Lyndonville Central School and
continued to teach there until 1990. He was a
science teacher at heart, teaching Physics and
Chemistry. At one time, he also was the Village of
Lyndonville Mayor. Upon his retirement he moved
to Florida. While in Florida he taught at several
schools. He had a deep love of teaching and taught
not only in the classroom, but he taught others
about life. Fred was a "Difference Maker" and all of
his children followed in his footsteps and became
teachers/principals. Through his life in
Lyndonville he served his community in many
ways. He was a member of the Lions Club,
American Legion, Lyndonville Fire Department
and was a devoted Methodist at the Lyndonville
United Methodist Church. Fred could also be seen
dressed as Uncle Sam at the traditional
Lyndonville 4th of July Parade.
Fred was a coach of almost all sports at one time
or another at LCS, but it was through his coaching
career as a wrestling "BAGUBA" that he earned a
spot in the 2005 Section 5 Hall of Fame, and also
had the LCS gymnasium named in his honor in
2011. Fred loved to play his ukulele and sing,
especially at the family bon fires at his cottage
when he and his wife would come home for the
summer. In recent years Fred was diagnosed with
bone cell cancer and developed dementia and
Parkinson's disease. It was through his illness and
because of his service to his country that he was
placed in the Veteran's Hospital in Batavia in
May of 2013.

years, Patricia; his children, William Large of Costa
