Mr. Alonzo “Boogie” Bennett was born on June 17, 1939 to parents James Lonzo and Cecil Louise Bennett. He entered into rest on September 22, 2020. “Boogie”, as he was known by family and friends, had two great loves in his life; his beautiful wife Bessie and fishing. He was a devoted husband and loved his wife above all else. Alonzo was also a dedicated father, grand-father and a loyal friend. He attented school at Centralia High School in Kansas and went on to serve in the Army in Germany. Alonzo moved to Mabank from Dallas in 1974, where he put down roots in the country. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life he was able to really enjoy his second love; fishing. “Boogie” was a member of the Church of Christ in Mabank, where he enjoyed worshipping, learning and being a part of the church family. He was a hardworking man and enjoyed his career in auto body work, where he could make anything look like new again. Alonzo was a kind man and was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed his life in the “country” and loved raising his family in a smaller, close knit community. Alonzo was well loved and will be missed.
“Boogie” was preceded in death by his parents; James and Cecil Bennett, his loving wife; Bessie Bennett, his daughters; Melinda Bledsoe, Sherrie Blaylock, daughter-in-law; Suzanne Bennett, and sister Roseanne Tyler. He is survived by his daughter; Ramona Bennett, son; Mark Bennett and sister; Joann Tyree. Alonzo is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and his very special friend Donna Gibbs Mengel. “Boogie” leaves behind many other loved ones and lifelong friends.
