Barbara was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, stepmother, and aunt.
She was born On May 29, 1938 in Fort Worth, Texas to parents Bennie and Mildred Paris, and was the firstborn of five girls. She married Billy R. Hodge on her birthday in 1968. They were married 51 years until his death on May 24, 2020.
For many years they enjoyed life in rural Canton, Texas. Their home was always open to family and friends. If you were privileged to visit them, you could be guaranteed that you would meet additional visitors 'just dropping in'. They loved company.
Barb loved nature, gardening, and animals long before it was cool. She and Bill planted multiple gardens each year and she would can, pickle, jam, jelly, and preserve the bountiful results. She was an excellent cook. To eat Sunday breakfast at the Hodge residence was something special. Their home always had an abundance of animals. Bill would find a stray on his job site; she would find a Canton reject. At one time they had six cats and six dogs, but always one special cat and dog to help rule the house.
She began her career working in the lab at Southwest Lens in Dallas, Texas, where she made life-long friends. Eventually, she received her Optician certification and continued working until retirement with Walmart Optical at their Vision Center. She enjoyed her career, her co-workers, and especially helping people.
Barbara loved her family and was much loved by her family! She was also a devoted friend to many. She leaves behind sisters Shirley Weaver, Gloria Walker, Myrna Moss, and Pamela Grimes. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, her special friend Kitty Struchen, and beloved fur-babies Bonnie Raitt and Pink. She will live on in our hearts.
A graveside service will be conducted at Eureka Cemetery in Corsicana, Texas on Saturday October 19, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.
