Betty was born January 11, 1931, the child of William Elijah and Bertie Lou Whitton. She was raised in the Whitton community where she attended the Whitton Community School and Canton High School. On November 12, 1948, she married Dalton Porter. Dalton and Betty had three children: Sharon Dale, Sue Ann and Keith Dalton. She was a Christian and a member of Eastern Hill Church of Christ in Athens. Except for five years spent in Kansas doing missionary work, she lived her life in Whitton, Kemp and Mabank. She lived her last years at Lakeland House Assisted Living in Athens.
Betty spent most of her working career in the public school system. She worked in the Mabank and Kemp schools, retiring in 2008. She spent several years doing follow-up calls and assisting with Grief Support Group with Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral HOme. After retiring she enjoyed volunteering with the Eastern Hills Church of Christ food pantry.
Betty was an avid quilter and a member of the Whitton Quilting Club. If you knew Betty, you had no doubt that most important in her life was serving her Lord every day.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertie Whitton; husband of over 50 years, Dalton Porter; siblings: Charlie, Minnie, Martha, Callie, Lawrence, Willie, Oliver, Burney, Leo, W.T., and Jimmie.
She is survived by her children: Sharon, Sue Ann, Keith, and Renee; grandchildren, Josh, Carly, Matt and Lauren; great grandchildren, Jonathan, Jake, Joanna and Levi; Betty is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, along with many friends.
