Carol Louise Otterstad

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Rejoice Lutheran Church, located at 12000 Independence Pkwy, Frisco, TX 75035, followed by a Celebration of Life funeral service at 10:00 am.

Carol was born to Henry and Frances Kluttz in 1947. Carol, being the oldest of 3 kids, was able to travel with her parents in the days before schooling started since Dad’s job at that time involved travel up and down the eastern seaboard and Gulf coast from North Carolina to Texas. This was probably the start of Carol’s life-long love for travel and seeing the countryside. To almost the very end, she loved to go for a drive and see the sights.

At Baylor University, Carol received her degree in Sociology and met and married John Otterstad. They had 2 boys – Kevin and Peter. During quiet moments at home, Carol was a prolific cross-stitch enthusiast completing an incredible number of pieces. Her favorite pieces featured angels and cats.

Over time, Carol found that what she most enjoyed was giving back to others. This focus took her back to college where she took a number of seminary courses at the Lutheran Seminary Program of the Southwest. Carol spent the rest of her active life volunteering and serving on many committees in the Lutheran Church. These included Via de Cristo, the NT-NL Public Witness Team which focuses on Social Justice, and being involved in other needs of the community including driving a school bus and looking after kids both on the bus and at Church.

Carol is predeceased by her parents, brother, and son, Kevin. Carol is survived by her son, Peter; sister, Mary; and niece, Kathy.

The family wishes to thank the Caregivers, Nurses, and Staff at Parkway Place Memory Care for their diligent care during the last few years of Carol’s life, and Carol’s friends at Rejoice Lutheran Church, who never forgot her.

A graveside service will be held later that day at 3:30 pm at 4 Mile Lutheran Cemetery, located at 460 Co Rd 2607, Mabank, TX 75147.
