He was born to George Oscar Godson and Marian Constance Godson on Feb. 27th, 1938 in Trenton, Ontario Canada. George served in the Canadian Army (1956-1988) where he then retired as Captain (RCEME) at St. Mary’s University, Halifax, N.S.
He had a wonderful life full of adventures from boating, fishing, RVing, and playing guitar in a country western band and singing with his fellow RV companions, touring thru the US, Canada, and Mexico. George was a lover of country music.
George was the kindest gentleman. He never raised his voice. George was always a kind soul to everyone he came across, whether he knew them or not. He was greatly loved by everyone who knew him: family, puppies, and neighbors.
George was on leave in Dallas when he met his wife Geneice in 1986. He then moved to Texas in 1987, retiring from the Army in 1988, to be closer to Geneice who lived in Garland, Texas at the time. After 4 years of courting, George finally proposed to Geneice and they were officially married in 1990. Later in life, George and Geneice moved to Henderson County, beside the lake. George’s home was his pride and joy, constantly working to update and extend it. George even became the President of his and Geneice’s HOA. They have had 33 wonderful years together.
George was a member of the Presbyterian Church where he volunteered for various positions at the church, he was an usher, setup the communion, liturgist, and was in the Presbyterian Men’s Group. He was also involved in what was fondly called “The Men’s Breakfast Club”, this is where he and fellow friends would come together and solve the world’s issues and have a good cup of McDonald’s coffee. After retiring from the service and moving to the states, George was employed and then retired from AutoZone. George enjoyed the work he did. He will be deeply missed, but he will live in the hearts that knew him.
George was survived by his beloved wife, Sarah “Geneice” Morris; sisters, Rowena and Bill Paddon; and Mary Lyn and Bruce Brown; daughter, Jennifer Robertson; daughter, Gillian Godson; daughter, Pam Long; daughter, Lonnie Lee Back; daughter, Geneice Suzanne Clark; son, Michael Scott Harmon; son, Mark Blaine Harmon; along with many grandkids, great-grandkids, and 1 great-great-grandkid.
