Gloria was born on August 24, 1939 in San Angelo, Texas to father Clarence Robertson and mother, Celia Leigh Robertson. She had an older brother, Robert James (Uncle Sonny) Robertson. The family remained in San Angelo for her entire childhood. Gloria’s paternal and maternal extended families were also in San Angelo which allowed many large family and holiday celebrations with her cousins, aunts, uncles, and grand-parents. This was the foundation of Gloria’s passion and love for family.
Gloria married early resulting in the birth of her two daughters, Pam and Debbie. Gloria continued to reside and work in San Angelo remaining near family. Her work resulted in life-long relationships with a work family from Gandy’s Dairy. She also worked at Ethicon. Ultimately, the promise of a new career in Dallas led her to work for Collins Radio and this is how she met her husband of almost 40 years, Roy Benedict.
Gloria and Bennie married August 17, 1969 and the family relocated to Mesquite, Texas where they remained until relocating back to San Angelo in 1981. While living in Mesquite, land was purchased in Grape Creek and this is where they would design and build their home.
They remained in San Angelo for the next 15 years, committed to spending time with her parents, her brother, and her extended family. During these years, there were many trips made to San Angelo by her children and grandchildren to spend holidays and summer vacations with Bumpers and Granny.
In 1996, Gloria and Bennie moved back to North Texas and Gloria remained in her Tool, Texas home for the next 28 years.
Gloria had many passions in life and she was an accomplished gardener, cook, baker, and seamstress. She had her own tools used to repair or rebuild anything broken. She was an avid reader and stayed informed on all current events.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband, Bennie and her daughter, Pam Woods.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Debbie Whitney and husband, Dale; and Pam’s husband, Doyle Woods. Gloria is also survived by her grandchildren and their families. Her grandchildren are Shane Woods and wife Tabetha; Waylon Whitney and wife Michelle; Carisa Roush; Stephanie Mckee and husband Jesse; Theresa Maronge and husband David. Gloria’s great-grandchildren are Hope Pierson, Kameron Woods, Jackson Hernandez, Declan Whitney, Aubrey Whitney, Henry McKee, Thomas Whit Mckee, William (Will) Mckee, Rachel Cunningham, and Emily Barnes. Gloria’s extended family includes Bennie’s children, Charles Benedict and wife Cathy, and Kathy Benedict.
Gloria requested cremation and her ashes will be spread in her beloved West Texas during the spring when the cactus and wildflowers are in bloom.
Gloria’s health journey was difficult over the last year, and each family member contributed to her care including hospital stays, doctors’ appointments, medical tests, errands, shopping, lawn care, automotive repairs, cooking, and most importantly companionship.
The family is grateful for the quality of care and compassion from Dr. Jonathan David, Christus Trinity Mother Frances Tyler, Reliant at Home, Christina McCombs, and Three Oaks Hospice, Denton.
