

Harold Lovell Smith of Eustace, Texas, was born on January 1, 1932, in Caddo Mills, Hunt County, Texas. He went to work in God’s Heavenly Garden at 8:11 am on August 24, 2023, from his home and earthly garden in Eustace, Texas after an extended illness.
Harold’s parents were Ed Jackson Smith and Falfa Delene O’Gwin Smith of Caddo Mills, Hunt County, Texas. Harold was married to Billie Sue Whitley Smith, of Quinlan, Hunt County, Texas and at her passing they had been married for 59 years. Harold worked on Ranches, was a maintenance worker in various areas, and worked for Henderson County Precinct 2 for many years. After retiring he built fences and work in his garden growing the best onions in the country and was known as the Onion Man to those around him. His Onions will be greatly missed. He loved to talk, work in his garden, and play Wahoo, Rummy, and 42.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, most of his in-laws, and all his siblings. Harold is survived by his children: Ricky Smith and his wife Alice of Artesia, New Mexico; Eddie Smith and his wife Vicky of Keithville, Louisiana; and Linda Smith Gilbreath and husband Larry of Eustace, Texas. Surviving Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren include: Lecia Smith of Pennsylvania; Jabob and Britany Hale and Amber Hale of La Port, Indiana; Ashleen Smith-Gonzalez of Maryland; Leah and Chris Boley and Crosby and Faye of Ashburn Virginia; Joshua and Tessa Smith and Camden and Haden of Shreveport, Louisiana; Jessica and Kenney Ruyle, and Whitley Drinning, Lukas Smith, and Asher Ruyle of Shreveport, Louisiana; Nathaniel and Jeanette Gilbreath and Alyssa, Bubba, and Cooper of Eustace, Texas; Timothy and Ariana Gilbreath and Isaiah and Caulder of Waxahachie, Texas; Savana and Austin Earlston and Elizabeth of Terrell, Texas; and Douglas and Katie Smith and James of Lubbock, Texas. Grandchildren preceding Harold into heaven included: Corey Smith, Leanna Gilbreath, and Shawn Gilbreath.
Services for Harold’s funeral are being provided by Eubanks Cedar Creek Lake. Services will be held as follows on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at the Payne Springs Community Center, 9693 FM 316/Hwy 198 Mabank, Texas 75147: Visitation – 12 pm, Service – 1 pm, After service Potluck meal following in the Community Center and please feel free to bring a dish if you wish. Harold has asked that all coming to the service dress in either overalls and western shirts or County Clothing.
