
Jack D. Murphy was born on August 3, 1924 in Trumble, Texas to parents Patrick and Opal (Newton) Murphy and entered into rest on July 24, 2016 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 91. In his younger years, at Ferris High School, Jack was an outstanding running back and baseball catcher. He became known as “Red” because of the color of his hair. He went on to play semi-pro baseball in Dallas for 5 years. Jack worked for TXU in Ferris, TX for awhile then for Government Agency Services which he retired from after many years of service. Jack was a very active and giving man. He was very close to the athletic programs at Mabank and Kemp High Schools. Jack donated money to the school lunch programs, not wanting any child to go without lunch. He donated blood at every opportunity. Jack was a member and former director at Cedar Creek Country Club, where as an accomplished golfer he won numerous golf tournaments.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William L. Murphy.
He is survived by his sister Patsy Davis of Houston, brother Charles Murphy and wife Carol of Houston, niece Lisa Murphy of Houston, nephews; Gene Kinsey of Houston, Jayson Murphy of Houston, and Anthony Murphy and wife Michelle of Houston, great nieces; Kim Pennington and family of Cameron, Texas, Tina Raiford and family of Lake Conroe, Texas, special friend of 44 years and neighbor Ron Jones, other loving family members and many more friends.
A memorial service is being planned at a later date at Cedar Creek Country Club.
