Kenneth L. Samford, 95, of Mabank, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Mabank Nursing Home. He was born on Tuesday, January 7, 1930, in Midlothian, Texas, to Lester and Myrtle Samford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Myrtle Samford; his brother, Lester Wayne Samford; his sister, Barbara “Ruth” Samford Tate; and three of his children, Leigh Ann Samford, Steven K. Samford, and Kelly Glen Samford.
Kenneth is survived by his devoted wife of 75 years, Joan; his sons, Scottie Lee Samford and Kenneth L. Samford; and a large, loving family including numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense pride and joy to his life. He is also survived by additional loving siblings, whose presence and affection were cherished throughout his life.
Kenneth had a deep love for country and gospel music, both listening and singing. In his earlier years, when he wasn’t running his Sheetrocking business, he dedicated much of his time to organizing the Mabank Opry House—a heartfelt endeavor born from the shared passion he and his daughter Leigh Ann had for country music.
He had a lifelong love for playing softball and could often be found running miles of bases with unstoppable energy and enthusiasm. He was equally passionate about the outdoors—finding joy in hunting and fishing. These weren’t solitary pursuits for Kenneth; he loved sharing his adventures with his beloved wife, Joan, and their children, creating lasting memories together in nature's embrace.
Kenneth will be remembered for the vibrant life he led, the music he shared, and the enduring legacy of love, laughter, and devotion he leaves behind. His warmth, humor, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and he cultivated numerous friendships and acquaintances through the years, each one fondly held in his heart. The stories he told, the smiles he gave, and the lives he touched will echo lovingly in the memories of all who knew him.
A graveside service and final resting place for Kenneth will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Lawn Cemetery, located at 18056 US 175, Mabank, Texas 75147.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all those who have offered their love, support, and prayers during this time. Your kindness and compassion have been a source of comfort and strength.
