

Long time Gun Barrel City resident, Leota Faye Magness, age 94, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, November 4, 2021, in Livingston, Tx. Leota was born January 31, 1927 to parents, Martha Ellen Rowell and Marion Barnett Rowell in Grady County, Oklahoma.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Martha Ellen Rowell and Marion Barnett Rowell; first husband, James Russell Welker; late husband, John B. Magness; 5 brothers, Euless Rowell, Fred Rowell, Owen Rowell, Leslie Rowell and Richard Rowell. 2 sisters, Viola Gibbs and Bobbie Arnold; 2 sons, Michael Welker and Johnny Magness;1 daughter, Gaylene Compton; and 2 grandchildren, Dina Haas and James Young.
Leota Magness is survived by 1 sister, Marion Ellen Slayton of Plainview, Tx.; 2 daughters, Peggy Christopher and husband, Gary Christopher of Granbury, Tx. and Phyllis Hancock of Beaverton, OR; 1 son, Clifton Welker and wife, Suzann Welker of Woodville, Tx.; daughter-in-law, Judy Welker of Somerville, Tx. along with 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Leota was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Mabank and shared God's love with everyone she met. She was known for her singing, pies, crocheted blankets, scarves, and needle work 'JESUS' plaques that you may have seen in businesses around the community. She loved and was loved by everyone she touched.
A Reception will be held Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 9:30am at Central Baptist Church in Mabank, followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:00am, officiated by Richard Fulton. A Grave Side Service will be held at a later date.
