Roberts was born February 16, 1925, in Bonham, TX to Mamie (Newton) and Floyd Wheat and went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2014. She maried at the young age of 16 to Leroy Roberts, a marriage that spanned 71 years until his passing in 2013. Mary described her life as one that she would not change, she never had much but there was nothing more that she wanted. She considered herself blessed to have been part of the lives of her chilrden, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was proud of her three kids, watching them grow up as the family moved around Texas and California working the fields and farming. Her life found roots in Bonham, Kleberg, Athens and ultimately Gun Barrel City. Mary Roberts was the calm, comforting, protector of the kids, which made the perfect contrast to the playful and jokingly affectionate personality of her late husband. Known to her family as "memama", she was happiest preparing home cooked meals from the garden and making sure that everyone was having a good time. She attended the First Assembly of God in Eustace, Texas, and was a member for over 40 years. Mary Roberts was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Leonard Wheat, sister Willa "Dean" Wheat, and her husband. Survivors include daughters Marilyn Armstrong and her husband Jerry of Rowlett, Geneva Sipes and her husband Elmer Royce of Kemp, son Steve Roberts and his wife Tammy of Lee Summit, Missouri; grandchildren Rodney, Tracy, Sabrena, Sandy, Ricky, Tonya, Jerry, Susan, Crystal, and Kyle; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and numerous family members and friends.
